This team
of six young people live on the island of Westray & Papa Westray
in the north of the Orkney Isles. Until recently the Westray Skiff
were the sea taxi used to transport people and small cargo between
the isles. These boats were built maintained and used locally and
exported to other islands. As local transport systems improved,
reliance on the Skiff decreased, as did the skills to build, maintain
and sail them. With funding from The Princes Trust and Millenium
Commission, the team intend to build a new skiff, which will increase
the awareness of their heritage, revive an old Skiff and facilitate
interaction between the young and old. The Skiff will be raced at
the local regatta, which is an important date in the local calendar
and the great glen rally. All the experiences will be recorded and
put online for everyone to access. The Skiff will then be donated
to the local sailing club. (continue
