Adults can browse for hours among the ever-increasing collection of black and white photos and memories written for past displays. Subjects include Schools, Kirks, the Lighthouse, 50 years of North Isles Sports, Royal Visits, Sea Transport and World Wars. The latest to add to this exciting collection is the book detailing the Houses of Westray "From Quoy to Castle" Over the past two years all the grave stones on Westray have been recorded digitally so that searches can be easily carried out on the computer here, making church yard visits much easier. This is also backed up by a wealth of local knowledge.
Children are fascinated to follow Archie Aak to the hands-on models which, like the permanent display, depict our natural heritage. Everyone likes to open the peedie drawers and gaze at the locally designed and produced wall panels. Local publications and crafts can be purchased from the shop/café where light refreshments are available. In the centre of the village, right next to the Pierowall Hotel the Heritage Centre is open daily May to September.
